Breath of Darigaaz

Breath of Darigaaz was released in 2015 as part of the Commander 2015 set, specifically within the Plunder the Graves deck. The card is a reprint of an original spell from the 2000 Invasion expansion, designed to evoke the destructive power of Darigaaz, the Igniter, one of the legendary Primeval Dragons of Dominaria. Its inclusion in a supplemental product reflected Wizards of the Coast's ongoing strategy to provide players with accessible versions of thematic red sorceries that bridge the gap between early magic history and the increasingly popular Commander format.

The card features artwork by artist Eric Deschamps, whose evocative illustration captures the visceral intensity of a dragon’s breath weapon. Deschamps, a prolific illustrator for the game, aimed to balance the chaotic, sweeping nature of fire damage with the clarity required for a card that serves as a board wipe for smaller creatures. Upon its initial release and subsequent reprints, the card was received as a reliable, if situational, utility spell for red-aligned decks, praised by the community for its efficient cost-to-effect ratio in multiplayer environments.
