Bribe Taker was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set, a collection themed around a 1920s-inspired, Art Deco metropolis controlled by organized crime families. The design of the card leans into the set's narrative of corruption and underworld influence, depicting a character integrated into the high-stakes political and criminal atmosphere of the city. As a card tied to the Commander format, it was specifically engineered to facilitate multi-player interaction through mechanics that incentivize political table-talk.

The artwork was provided by Brian Valeza, who leaned into the noir aesthetic that defined the visual identity of New Capenna. Valeza’s illustration captures the predatory nature of the character, emphasizing the gritty, sharp-angled elegance synonymous with the plane’s setting.
