Provenance

Where it came from

Call to the Void was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate set in 2022. Designed as a thematic tie-in to the Dungeons & Dragons universe, this card exemplifies the expansion's focus on translating iconic tabletop mechanics into the high-fantasy tactical gameplay of the Magic trading card game.

The card features artwork by Anna Steinbauer, who is known for her expressive, painterly style within the fantasy genre. In this piece, she aimed to capture the foreboding nature of the void-touched magic found in the Forgotten Realms setting. Upon its release, the card was well-received by fans of the Commander format for its utility and its evocative integration of D&D-inspired lore.
