Where it came from
Celes Chere, appearing as the Rune Knight in the Final Fantasy Commander set, serves as an adaptation of the central protagonist from Final Fantasy VI. The card design is intended to reflect her unique Runic ability, which allows her to absorb magical attacks and convert them into energy. By integrating her character arc into a tabletop gaming format, the creators sought to capture the high-fantasy aesthetic and tactical mechanics inherent to the series' legacy.
The card’s illustration leans into the character's signature blend of imperial military training and her innate magical aptitude. It draws inspiration from Yoshitaka Amano’s original character designs, utilizing a visual language that emphasizes her poise and combat readiness. Upon its release, the card was received as a faithful homage by collectors who appreciate the technical translation of video game tropes into balanced, interactive card-based gameplay.
