Where it came from
Celes, Rune Knight, numbered 001 in the Final Fantasy Commander set, serves as a focal point for fans of the tactical card game adaptation of the beloved role-playing series. The card was designed to translate the character's signature Runic ability into a mechanical format, allowing players to negate magical effects during gameplay. This design choice emphasizes the character's role as a defensive powerhouse and an essential strategist within the broader Commander play style.
The illustration for the card captures Celes Chere in her iconic opera house attire, a visual nod to the memorable sequence from Final Fantasy VI. The artist aimed to balance the character's stoic military background with her vulnerability and musical prowess. Upon its release, the card was received positively by the community for its thematic accuracy and its effectiveness in high-level play, cementing its place as a staple for deck builders focusing on synergy and control.
