Where it came from
Centaur of Attention was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, the fourth installment in Wizards of the Coast's 'Un-' series. These sets are designed to explore unconventional card mechanics and humor, often featuring game rules that deviate from standard Magic: The Gathering play. This specific card was crafted to function within the set’s circus and space-theme aesthetic, utilizing a mechanic that allows players to increase the creature's power through the accumulation of stickers—a signature feature of the Unfinity expansion.
The card was illustrated by artist Billy Christian, who brought a playful, vibrant visual style to the creature design. By leaning into the whimsical atmosphere of the set, the illustration captures the chaotic energy of a carnival-themed centaur performer. Upon its release, the card was received as a lighthearted addition to the set, appreciated primarily by players who enjoy the silver-bordered or 'un-legal' style of gameplay that prioritizes creative interaction over competitive tournament standards.
