Where it came from
Centaur of Attention was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, the fourth installment in Wizards of the Coast's Un-series. These sets are designed to explore the lighter, more humorous side of Magic: The Gathering, frequently breaking standard rules or incorporating mechanics that would be difficult to balance in competitive play. The card's design features the unique 'sticker' mechanic introduced in the set, allowing players to physically modify their cards to increase power and toughness during gameplay.
The card was illustrated by artist Matt Dixon, known for his distinct, expressive character designs. The artwork leans into the set's retro-futuristic carnival aesthetic, capturing a vibrant, whimsical tone that contrasts with the traditionally serious high-fantasy art of standard Magic sets. Upon its release, the card became a notable example of the creative freedom Unfinity provided to designers, allowing for meta-narrative humor that acknowledges the chaotic nature of trading card games.
