Where it came from
The Chakram Retriever was released as a promotional card for the Battlebond set in 2018, a unique Magic: The Gathering expansion designed specifically for the Two-Headed Giant format. The card was distributed as a participation promo at Battlebond launch events, reflecting the set's focus on cooperative play and pair-based combat mechanics. Its inclusion in this format emphasized the strategic synergy required for team-based card games, marking a shift toward more communal gameplay experiences within the broader game ecosystem.
The artwork, illustrated by Aleksi Briclot, captures the tactical and ethereal nature of the retriever, aligning with the high-fantasy aesthetic that defines the Battlebond arena. Briclot's design was crafted to visually represent the card's function of returning artifacts to the battlefield, utilizing a dynamic composition that highlights the interplay between the mechanical construct and its magical environment. The card was generally well-received by players for its utility in artifact-centric decks and remains a notable inclusion in collectors' folders due to its specific set branding and thematic art style.
