Where it came from
Toothy, Imaginary Friend was released in 2018 as part of the Battlebond set, a Magic: The Gathering expansion specifically designed for the Two-Headed Giant format. The card was featured as a promo version, collector number 12s, which served to highlight the set's focus on collaborative play and the thematic bond between partners.
The character design was illustrated by Johann Bodin, who opted for a whimsical yet unsettling aesthetic to represent the concept of an imaginary companion. The card’s mechanics reflect this narrative, as Toothy grows in power through its synergy with its partner card, Pir, Imaginative Rascal. Upon release, the set was well-received by players for its unique mechanics and flavor, cementing Toothy as a memorable inclusion in the game’s creative lore.
