Where it came from
Champions from Beyond was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' collaboration with the Final Fantasy franchise. This set was designed to integrate the iconic characters, lore, and visual aesthetic of the long-running role-playing game series into the card game's mechanics, offering players a thematic bridge between two massive fantasy universes.
The card’s illustration reflects the distinctive art style associated with modern Final Fantasy titles, emphasizing dramatic lighting and high-fantasy character design. As part of a larger crossover initiative, these cards were developed to evoke the nostalgia of classic titles while functioning within the strategic depth of the Commander format, receiving generally positive attention from hobbyists for their fidelity to the source material's artistic legacy.
