Where it came from
Chandra, Heart of Fire (135p) was released in 2020 as part of the Core Set 2021 promotional cycle for Magic: The Gathering. This particular iteration of the iconic pyromancer character was designed as a centerpiece for the set's narrative, intended to showcase her evolution from a volatile wanderer into a more seasoned and tactical leader. The promo version features unique card art by Billy Christian, who moved away from typical action-oriented battle poses to highlight a more contemplative, internal intensity reflecting Chandra's growth in the game's lore.
The reception of the card within the community was driven largely by its utility in red-aligned decks and the aesthetic appeal of its distinct promo treatment. Collectors often sought out this version due to the departure from the standard set art, marking a shift in how Wizards of the Coast presented Planeswalker characters during the Core Set 2021 era. As a promo card, it occupies a specific niche in the broader history of the Chandra Nalaar character, serving as a snapshot of her visual representation during a pivot point in the game's overarching storyline.
