Where it came from
Chandra, Gremlin Wrangler was released as part of the 2016 Heroes of the Realm series, a line of promotional cards created by Wizards of the Coast. These cards were uniquely designed as internal rewards for employees who made significant contributions to the company’s projects throughout the year. As these were never available in standard booster packs or retail settings, they serve as a rare tokens of appreciation for the internal development teams.
The card features art by Magali Villeneuve and showcases Chandra Nalaar, a perennial protagonist in the Magic: The Gathering franchise. The design team crafted the card with a lighthearted, flavor-focused mechanics set, specifically creating Gremlin tokens to match the whimsical nature of the art. Because the card was never intended for competitive tournament play, the design reflects a spirit of insider humor and celebration of the collaborative work culture at the company.
