Chandra, Novice Pyromancer

Chandra, Novice Pyromancer was released as part of the Core Set 2020 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set designed to provide an accessible entry point for new players while offering mechanical depth. This specific card represents the Planeswalker Chandra Nalaar at a younger stage in her narrative, serving as a functional, lower-cost iteration of the character that emphasizes her fiery, impulsive nature through direct damage abilities.

The card illustration was created by artist Anna Steinbauer, who rendered the character with a focus on youthful intensity and burgeoning magical control. The design intent for this card was to bridge the gap between complex mechanics and straightforward gameplay, ensuring that novice players could grasp her strategic role in a deck. Upon release, it was well-received by the player community as an effective utility card that fit comfortably into aggressive red decks without overwhelming the board state.
