Where it came from
Chandra's Ignition was first released in 2015 as part of the Magic Origins set, designed to flesh out the origin stories of five iconic Planeswalkers. The card depicts a pivotal moment in the character Chandra Nalaar’s history, illustrating the catastrophic flare of her pyromancy on her home plane of Kaladesh. It was mechanically crafted as a rare sorcery that translates the character's impulsive, destructive nature into a powerful board-clearing effect, forcing creatures to deal damage equal to their power to every other creature and player.
The artwork for this specific promotional version, numbered 137s, was illustrated by Eric Deschamps. Deschamps sought to capture the intense, visceral light of Chandra’s fire magic against a backdrop of Kaladeshi architecture. As a promotional variant distributed through Wizards of the Coast's organized play programs, this card features a unique date stamp and foil treatment that distinguishes it from the standard core set version. It remains a staple for collectors of thematic Chandra-focused artifacts due to its strong narrative connection to her spark-igniting back story.
