Chandra's Outburst

Chandra's Outburst was released in the 2018 expansion set Dominaria, a pivotal release for Magic: The Gathering that aimed to return the game to its foundational roots and settings. The card serves as a representative piece of red-aligned spellcasting within the set, capturing the impulsive and volatile nature of the planeswalker Chandra Nalaar. It was designed as an uncommon-rarity sorcery to provide players with a combination of direct damage and card advantage, fitting into the aggressive, spell-heavy playstyles that characterize red decks.

The illustration for the card was provided by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose work frequently features dynamic lighting and high-energy fantasy subjects. In this piece, Kieryluk focused on rendering the raw, elemental output of Chandra’s pyromancy to reflect the card's function of dealing damage while enabling the player to cast additional spells. Within the community, the card was received as a functional, flavorful inclusion that reinforced the character-driven narrative focus of the Dominaria set, blending mechanical utility with the broader lore of the Multiverse.
