Where it came from
Chaoslace was released as a rare card in the 1993 Unlimited Edition set of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, published by Wizards of the Coast. Designed during the game's infancy by Richard Garfield, the card was part of an early effort to introduce color-manipulation mechanics, intended to allow players to alter the mana requirements of spells or the color identity of permanents to disrupt their opponent's strategies.
The card features artwork by Dan Frazier, whose distinctive style was instrumental in defining the visual language of the game's first two years. While mechanically complex and often viewed as niche by the player base, Chaoslace remains a piece of Magic history, representing the experimental and literal interpretation of color interaction that characterized the Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited print runs before the game's rules evolved into more streamlined formats.
