Charging Rhino

Charging Rhino was released in 1997 as part of the Portal set, an introductory Magic: The Gathering product designed to ease new players into the game by simplifying mechanics and removing complex interactions like interrupts. The set was created to act as a standalone gateway, focusing on straightforward creature combat and flavor-driven design rather than the dense rule structures of the core game at the time.

The card features artwork by Una Fricker, who provided several illustrations for the Portal release. Her depiction of the rhino emphasizes a direct, kinetic sense of motion, aligning with the card's function as a simple but effective aggressive threat.
