What it does
When you set this scheme in motion, look at the top four cards of your library and separate them into a face-down pile and a face-up pile. An opponent chooses one of those piles. Put the cards in that pile into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
"There is no way out—only a choice of final agonies."

Where it came from
Choose Your Demise was released in 2024 as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror Commander set for the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to reflect the thematic tone of the Duskmourn plane, a world modeled after 1980s horror tropes and haunted house narratives. Within the mechanics of the game, this card serves as a 'choice' spell, forcing opponents to decide between unfavorable outcomes, which aligns with the psychological tension typical of the horror genre.
The artwork for the card captures the unsettling, claustrophobic aesthetic of the set, emphasizing the visceral nature of the House of Horror. As a component of a Commander-specific release, the card was crafted to support multiplayer playstyles that prioritize social interaction and high-impact decision-making. Upon its release, it was noted by players for its thematic integration and its ability to fit into niche decks focused on group-slug or chaos-oriented mechanics.
