Churning Eddy

Churning Eddy was released in February 2002 as part of the Torment expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the second set in the Odyssey block, Torment was designed with a heavy emphasis on the color black, reflecting the storyline's shift toward the dark influence of the Cabal. Within this mechanical framework, Churning Eddy functioned as a common blue sorcery designed to provide players with a temporary tempo advantage by returning a permanent to its owner's hand.

The card’s visual identity was crafted by artist Thomas M. Baxa, whose work often explores darker, surreal, or high-fantasy aesthetics.
