Where it came from
Cid, Freeflier Pilot is a card from the Final Fantasy Commander set, released as part of a crossover expansion designed to integrate the iconic characters and aesthetics of the Final Fantasy franchise into the collectible card game format. The card features the character Cid, a recurring figure throughout the series known for his expertise as a pilot and engineer, reflecting the series' thematic emphasis on airships and technological ingenuity.
The artwork was commissioned to capture the adventurous spirit of the character, utilizing a stylized aesthetic consistent with the visual language of modern fantasy trading card games. The design team focused on balancing the character's traditional role in the series—often associated with movement and air travel—with the specific mechanical requirements of the game's Commander format.
