Where it came from
The Clerics front card originates from the Magic: The Gathering Foundations Jumpstart set, released in 2024 to provide an accessible entry point for new and returning players. As part of the Jumpstart product line, these cards are designed to act as theme identifiers for semi-randomized, ready-to-play booster packs that can be shuffled together for immediate gameplay. The card highlights the Cleric creature type, a staple of the white mana color identity known for healing, protection, and defensive resilience.
The design of the Foundations set emphasizes clarity and thematic cohesion to bridge the gap between complex mechanics and foundational card archetypes. The illustration for the Clerics card adheres to the established visual language of the game, leaning into high-fantasy iconography that evokes a sense of sacred duty and divine support. By distilling the essence of the cleric archetype into a single front card, the design team aimed to help players quickly recognize their deck's core strategy without needing extensive deck-building experience.
