What it does
While an opponent is choosing targets as part of casting a spell they control or activating an ability they control, that player must choose at least one Flagbearer on the battlefield if able.
Giving little thought to their own defense, they carried the flag that united their army.

Where it came from
Coalition Honor Guard was originally printed in the 2000 Invasion expansion set as part of the Phyrexians vs. Coalition narrative arc. It was designed as a white common creature with the 'tribute' ability, a keyword that served as a thematic representation of the card's role as a protector within the allied forces fighting against the invading Phyrexians.
The card was reprinted in the 2016 Eternal Masters set, a collection specifically curated for the Vintage and Legacy formats. The updated card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, who depicted the soldier in a traditional, stalwart pose that emphasizes the defensive utility of the guard's ability to force opponents to target it instead of other creatures.
