Coalition Legion

The Coalition Legion card was released in 2022 as part of the Dominaria United Jumpstart set, specifically appearing as one of the featured front cards for the themed decks. Wizards of the Coast designed these front cards to provide a clear, thematic identity for the pre-constructed Jumpstart experience, ensuring that players could easily identify the specific mechanical focus of their deck before beginning a match. This approach was intended to streamline the accessibility of the Jumpstart format, which relies on combining two distinct, semi-randomized decks to create a quick and balanced play environment.

The art and design for the Coalition Legion card draw heavily from the rich history of Dominaria, a plane central to the Magic: The Gathering lore. The card serves as a thematic anchor for decks revolving around the concept of the Coalition, an alliance of disparate groups united against the Phyrexians during the plane's historical conflicts. By featuring iconic imagery of these united forces, the design aims to evoke a sense of nostalgia for veteran players while providing a cohesive visual narrative for newcomers engaging with the Dominaria United set.
