Coastal Peak

Coastal Peak was released in 2021 as part of the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander set, a collection of supplemental decks designed to accompany the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card functions as a utility land within the game, reflecting the magical academic setting of the plane of Arcavios, where students harness the forces of nature and intellect. Its design serves to support the multicolor gameplay mechanics central to the Strixhaven experience, providing a thematic anchor for players constructing decks around the university's various colleges.

The visual identity of Coastal Peak was brought to life by artist Johannes Voss, who has been a significant contributor to the Magic: The Gathering aesthetic for many years. Voss’s approach for this piece focuses on the serene, elevated landscapes of Arcavios, emphasizing the ethereal light and expansive vistas that characterize the campus surroundings. The card was well-received by the player base for its functional role in Commander format deck-building, where its ability to provide flexible mana support proved valuable for players navigating the complex color requirements of the set's legendary creatures.
