Cobbled Wings

Cobbled Wings was released in 2017 as part of the Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Set on the plane of Ixalan, a world inspired by the Age of Discovery and Mesoamerican mythology, the card was designed to support the set's limited environment by providing a versatile equipment option for creatures. Its function reflects the scavenging nature of the inhabitants in the Ixalan setting, where resources were often repurposed to aid in survival and exploration.

The artwork was commissioned from longtime Magic illustrator Kev Walker, whose style often emphasizes grit, texture, and kinetic energy. For this piece, Walker sought to convey the makeshift, tactile nature of the wings, which appear to be constructed from salvaged sails and rigging.
