Where it came from
Comet, Stellar Pup was released as part of the Mystery Booster 2 set, which was designed to celebrate the history of Magic: The Gathering by featuring a wide array of cards, including many that reference the game's lighter side and experimental playtest designs. This card specifically belongs to a series of silver-bordered cards, traditionally used for Un-sets, which push the boundaries of standard gameplay mechanics to prioritize humor and unusual interactions over strict competitive integrity.
The character design and art for Comet were crafted to capture a whimsical, cosmic aesthetic fitting for a dog-themed planeswalker. The card was created with the intent of providing players with an unpredictable and engaging gameplay experience, relying on die-rolling mechanics to determine the pup's abilities. Within the community, the card has been received as a charming addition to casual formats, recognized primarily for its inventive, chaotic approach to card design.
