Where it came from
Commissar Severina Raine was introduced to the Warhammer 40,000 universe in the 2018 novel 'Honourbound' by Rachel Harrison. As a dedicated Imperial Commissar leading the 11th Antari Rifles, her character was designed to emphasize the grit and tactical pragmatism often overshadowed by the more extreme portrayals of the Astra Militarum. The card featured in the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set serves as an homage to her narrative arc, capturing her role as a relentless officer operating within the oppressive machinery of the Imperium.
The card's artwork draws directly from the aesthetic established by Games Workshop's design team for the character's miniature debut. By translating her literary presence into a mechanical asset for the Magic: The Gathering Commander format, the card reflects the ongoing collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop. It is categorized within the Universes Beyond initiative, specifically curated to retain the thematic identity of the Warhammer 40,000 setting while functioning within the established rules of the tabletop trading card game.
