Where it came from
Commissar Severina Raine was introduced to the Warhammer 40,000 universe as the protagonist of Rachel Harrison's novel Honorbound, first published in 2018. The character was designed to embody the grim, disciplined nature of the Astra Militarum, serving as a focal point for narratives centered on the 11th Antari Rifles. Her design reflects the iconic aesthetic of the Imperial Guard commissariat, emphasizing the stark contrast between bureaucratic authority and the chaotic violence of the tabletop setting.
This specific card, numbered 112★, was released as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. The card utilizes artwork that translates the literary character into the distinct visual style of the trading card game while maintaining the aesthetic integrity of the source material. It was received by the community as a thematic inclusion that bridged the gap between Black Library literature and the collaborative mechanics of the Commander format, intended for players who value character-driven flavor.
