Conduit of Storms // Conduit of Emrakul

The Conduit of Storms, which transforms into Conduit of Emrakul, was released in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering expansion Eldritch Moon. This set focused on the corruption of the plane of Innistrad by the Eldrazi titan Emrakul, shifting the aesthetic from gothic horror to cosmic body horror. The card design utilizes the double-faced mechanic, a signature feature of the Innistrad block that allows a card to physically flip to represent a transformation, in this case depicting a standard creature becoming warped by eldritch influence.

The card’s artwork was illustrated by Chris Rahn, who captured the transition from a storm-wielding barbarian to a twisted, tentacled agent of Emrakul. Rahn’s work is noted for its dramatic lighting and clear sense of scale, which helped ground the set’s surreal themes within the game's mechanics. Upon its release, the card was viewed as a strong utility piece for red aggressive decks, appreciated by players for its ability to generate mana and provide consistent pressure in the mid-game.
