Confiscate

Confiscate was originally introduced in the Urza's Saga expansion in 1998, representing a key mechanical shift in blue magic that allowed players to permanently gain control of a wide variety of nonland permanents. By the time it was reprinted in the Ninth Edition core set in 2005, the card had established itself as a staple of the blue control archetype, favored for its versatility in disrupting an opponent's board state regardless of whether the target was an artifact, enchantment, or creature.

The Ninth Edition illustration was rendered by Adam Rex, an artist known for his distinctively lush and imaginative digital painting style. His depiction of Confiscate leans into the arcane and mystical nature of the effect, portraying a shimmering, ethereal tether being cast over an object to seize it.
