Consecrated Sphinx

Consecrated Sphinx was originally released in the 2011 Magic: The Gathering set Mirrodin Besieged, designed as a high-impact mythic rare intended to dominate the late-game state. It quickly became a staple in Commander and other casual formats due to its potent ability to draw cards whenever an opponent draws, effectively punishing the table for playing the game. Over a decade later, it was selected for inclusion in the Secret Lair series, a line of premium, curated cards released with unique, artist-driven aesthetics.

This specific version, released as part of a Secret Lair Drop in 2022, features artwork by the Japanese manga artist Imiri Sakabashira. Known for his surreal, grotesque, and dreamlike illustrative style, Sakabashira departed from the traditional, high-fantasy aesthetic of the original card. His interpretation reimagined the Sphinx through a bizarre, avant-garde lens, which drew significant attention from collectors who value the intersection of Magic's mechanical gameplay with distinct international art movements.
