Where it came from
The Plains card, specifically collector number 2540, was released as part of the Secret Lair series, a specialized line of Magic: The Gathering products featuring curated, limited-run cards with unique artistic treatments. This particular card originated from the 'Secret Lair x Street Fighter' drop, which sought to bridge the gap between Wizards of the Coast's flagship card game and the iconic legacy of Capcom's fighting franchise. By integrating the thematic aesthetics of the video game into the standard card frame, the release targeted both long-term collectors and fans of global gaming culture.
The artistic direction for this drop was designed to evoke the high-energy, nostalgic visual language of the Street Fighter series. By utilizing signature character styles and vibrant, action-oriented compositions, the designers aimed to reimagine traditional Magic landscapes through the lens of a classic arcade aesthetic. Upon its release, the set was received as a novel crossover experiment, noted for its successful blending of two distinct artistic identities into a cohesive, collectible format.
