Provenance

Where it came from

Cosima, God of the Voyage was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering set Kaldheim, which drew heavily from Norse mythology and Viking culture. Designed as a double-faced legendary creature, the card represents a seafaring deity reflecting the set's exploration themes. It was created to provide players with a versatile tool that transitions from an early-game engine for card advantage into a late-game threat.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Johannes Voss, who utilized a ethereal, fluid aesthetic to capture Cosima’s divine nature and connection to the sea. The design intended to evoke a sense of vast discovery, fitting the set’s focus on the snowy, expansive landscapes of the Kaldheim plane. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its unique mechanics and the strategic depth required to manage its voyage counters effectively.
