Where it came from
The Council of Reeds card was released in 2024 as part of the Marvel Super Heroes Commander deck for the Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond expansion. This set was designed to integrate iconic characters from the Marvel Multiverse into the mechanics of the Commander format, representing the multiversal organization of Reed Richards variants first introduced in the Fantastic Four comics during the Jonathan Hickman run.
The art was created by illustrator Rovina Cai, who leaned into the surreal and conceptual nature of the Council, depicting multiple versions of Mr. Fantastic gathered together. The card was received positively by players for its thematic ability to search for other versions of the character, capturing the essence of the intellectual camaraderie and inevitable tragedy inherent to the Council of Reeds in the source material.
