What it does
Reach, vigilance
Whenever a Dinosaur you control deals combat damage to a player, draw a card.

Where it came from
Curious Altisaur was released in 2024 as part of the Foundations Commander set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was designed to be highly accessible, serving as an entry point for new players while providing evergreen staples that could function effectively in the game's popular Commander format. The card represents a recurring theme in Magic design where large, efficient creatures provide card advantage, specifically utilizing the discover mechanic to incentivize players to build decks with a varied range of mana costs.
The creature art, illustrated by Joshua Raphael, leans into the vibrant, prehistoric aesthetic common to Magic's dinosaur-themed cards. Raphael’s approach emphasizes the scale and curiosity of the beast, capturing a sense of discovery that aligns with the card's mechanical function. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the player base for its versatility and its role as a solid, reliable inclusion for green-aligned decks that focus on midrange strategies.
