Cutthroat Negotiator

Cutthroat Negotiator was released in 2023 as part of the March of the Machine Commander set, a collection of supplemental decks designed to accompany the larger March of the Machine expansion. The card was specifically featured in the Growing Threat deck, which centered on the Phyrexian-aligned Phyrexians and their mechanical infiltration of the multiverse. This card exemplifies the set's focus on political gameplay and forced cooperation, mechanics often associated with the Commander format's emphasis on social interaction and table negotiation.

The artwork, illustrated by Billy Christian, captures the sleek, terrifying aesthetic characteristic of the New Phyrexian aesthetic introduced in earlier sets. By providing opponents with tokens in exchange for card draw and combat advantages, the card was designed as a high-risk, high-reward utility piece. It received moderate attention from the Commander community for its ability to manipulate board states, particularly in decks that benefit from incentivizing opponents to attack elsewhere.
