Cyclonic Rift

Cyclonic Rift first appeared in the 2012 Return to Ravnica expansion, designed as a versatile blue instant that reflects the chaotic, shifting nature of the plane's cityscape. The card was conceived by the Magic: The Gathering design team to provide a scaling board-control effect, allowing players to bounce nonland permanents back to their owners' hands. Its unique overload mechanic creates a significant swing in gameplay, which quickly solidified it as a staple across multiple formats, particularly in the Commander format.

This specific printing comes from the 2020 Double Masters set, which served as a curated collection of powerful and sought-after cards from the game's history. The illustration for this version was provided by Victor Adame Minguez, who sought to capture the sheer scale and destructive energy of a localized magical storm. His approach focused on dynamic movement and the overwhelming power of the spell, resulting in a design that is widely regarded by players for its balance of aesthetic appeal and functional clarity.
