Provenance

Where it came from

Darkblast was originally released in the 2005 Ravnica: City of Guilds set, serving as a tactical removal spell that showcased the unique Golgari mechanics of the Ravnica plane. Its design, which features the dredge keyword, allows players to recur the card from their graveyard to their hand at the cost of milling their deck, making it a staple utility piece in formats where graveyard interaction is central to strategy.

For the Ravnica Remastered set, released in 2024, the card was updated with new imagery by artist Randy Gallegos. Gallegos, known for his atmospheric and textured painting style, leaned into the necrotic and earthy aesthetic of the Golgari Swarm. The card was received as a respectful modern treatment of a classic functional utility spell, retaining the original card's strategic identity while providing a fresh visual perspective for contemporary players.
