D'Avenant Archer

The D'Avenant Archer was originally printed in the Legends expansion in 1994, representing a specific period in Magic: The Gathering history when the game began exploring complex lore and legendary creatures. This specific printing belongs to the Classic Sixth Edition set, released in 1999, which served as a major rules overhaul for the game. The card was selected for inclusion in the core set to maintain a consistent presence of utility creatures that provided defensive capabilities through the Archer's signature ability to untap under specific conditions.

The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most prolific and iconic illustrators in the early years of the game. His design focuses on the stoic, disciplined aesthetic of the D'Avenant military, utilizing a traditional fantasy style that emphasizes the character's readiness for combat. In the context of Sixth Edition, the card was received as a functional, mid-tier piece that helped bridge the transition between the game's original, loose mechanical structure and the more standardized, codified rules system introduced by Wizards of the Coast at the turn of the millennium.
