D'Avenant Archer

D'Avenant Archer was released in 1997 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion set Chronicles. This set was designed as a reprint compilation, intended to provide players with accessible versions of cards from earlier expansions that had become difficult to acquire. The card features artwork by Susan Van Camp, whose delicate illustrative style was a hallmark of the game's mid-nineties aesthetic, emphasizing a sense of classic fantasy tropes within the established lore of the D'Avenant region.

The reception of the Chronicles set was complex within the player community, primarily due to the inclusion of many previously rare cards which significantly altered the secondary market at the time. Despite the controversy surrounding the set's impact on card scarcity, the D'Avenant Archer remains a nostalgic piece for many collectors, representing a period when Wizards of the Coast experimented with how to manage card availability and maintain the long-term health of the game's expanding ecosystem.
