What it does
Until end of turn, outlaw creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain "tap: This creature deals damage equal to its power to target creature." (Assassins, Mercenaries, Pirates, Rogues, and Warlocks are outlaws.)
Daniel's mistake wasn't just coming alone. It was believing his rival had done the same.

Where it came from
Dead Before Sunrise was released in 2024 as part of the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander set for Magic: The Gathering. The card fits into the game's broader narrative arc centered on a multi-planar frontier theme, blending western tropes with high-fantasy elements. It functions as a black-aligned sorcery designed to provide players with graveyard recursion, allowing them to return creatures to the battlefield under specific conditions.
The card’s visual direction was crafted to reinforce the set's gritty, lawless atmosphere, utilizing dark, moody aesthetics consistent with the outlaw theme. Like many cards in the Commander expansion, it was developed by Wizards of the Coast to support multiplayer formats, focusing on value-generating gameplay. It was received by the player base as a niche utility piece, valued primarily for its ability to capitalize on creature-heavy strategies during the mid-to-late stages of a match.
