Death's Duet

Death's Duet was released in 1998 as part of the Exodus expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was the final installment of the Rath Cycle, designed by Wizards of the Coast to deepen the game's evolving narrative and introduce new mechanics such as the 'buyback' ability, which allowed players to return cards from the graveyard to their hand. The set was developed under the guidance of Mark Rosewater, who focused on creating high-impact cards that shifted the competitive landscape of the era.

The artwork for Death's Duet was created by illustrator Randy Elliott, who utilized a dark, atmospheric style to capture the card's theme of necromancy and resource recovery. As a common card within the set, it was primarily intended to provide players with a reliable, mid-game tool for maintaining card advantage in black-aligned decks.
