Deserted Beach was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion for Magic: The Gathering. It belongs to a cycle of rare dual lands known as 'slow lands,' which were designed to provide flexible mana fixing for multicolored decks by entering the battlefield untapped if the player already controls two or more other lands. This mechanical design choice was intended to balance the power level of the lands, offering utility in the mid-to-late game without providing an immediate tempo advantage in the opening turns.
