Where it came from
Dismiss was originally introduced in the Urza's Destiny expansion in 1999, designed to be a powerful counterspell that provided inherent card advantage by allowing the player to return a card from their graveyard to their hand. Its inclusion in Jumpstart 2022, featuring new illustrative work by artist Anato Finnstark, serves to reintroduce this iconic utility card to newer players and limited formats, maintaining its legacy as a staple of control-oriented blue decks.
The art by Anato Finnstark departs from the classic aesthetic of the original 1999 release, favoring a modern, sweeping style that emphasizes the feeling of magical negation. The card design itself has been widely praised throughout its history for its efficiency, as it simultaneously disrupts an opponent's momentum while ensuring the player does not run out of resources during the mid-to-late stages of a game.
