Dispersal Shield

Dispersal Shield was released in 2003 as part of the Scourge set, the final expansion in the Onslaught block for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed to round out the block's focus on tribal synergies and the morph mechanic, representing the chaotic aftermath of the Phyrexian invasion on the plane of Otaria. The card was illustrated by the artist Darrell Riche, who utilized a distinct, high-fantasy style that captured the shifting, unstable nature of the enchantment's protective barrier.

Mechanically, the card was intended to provide a defensive utility for blue-aligned decks, allowing players to return permanents to their owner's hand as a form of tempo disruption. Upon its release, the card saw moderate attention in casual playgroups and limited environments, though it did not exert significant influence on high-level competitive formats.
