Where it came from
Divination was introduced in the Magic 2012 core set as a functional reprint of card advantage staples that allow a player to draw two cards for three mana. As a core set common, it was designed to serve as a fundamental educational tool for new players, teaching the core mechanics of resource management and the strategic value of card draw within the blue color identity.
The illustration by artist Aleksi Briclot captures the theme of arcane foresight through a stylized, ethereal figure gazing into a crystalline focal point. Briclot, a prolific contributor to Magic: The Gathering, employed a high-contrast aesthetic to evoke a sense of mystical clarity, aligning the visual language with the card's function of revealing information and replenishing a player's hand.
