Where it came from
Draconic Intervention was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion in 2021, specifically featured as a rare promo card. The card originates from the magical setting of Strixhaven University, a collegiate environment focused on the study of arcane arts. Mechanically designed as a board wipe, it fits the theme of the Prismari college, which emphasizes bold, creative, and often destructive displays of elemental magic.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who captured the overwhelming scale of a dragon's breath weapon. The design aesthetic reflects the high-fantasy, academic atmosphere of the set, utilizing vibrant colors and dynamic compositions typical of the Prismari aesthetic. Upon its release, the card was received as a flavorful addition to red-based control decks, noted for its ability to clear the battlefield while scaling effectively with the number of spells in a player's graveyard.
