Provenance

Where it came from

Dragon Roost was first introduced in the Scourge expansion in 2003, later seeing a reprint in the Tenth Edition core set in 2007. As part of the Tenth Edition release, the card received the classic white-border treatment characteristic of core sets from that era, serving as a high-mana enchantment designed to provide players with a consistent late-game threat by allowing them to generate 5/5 flying Dragon tokens.

The artwork for this version was provided by Jim Pavelec, an artist known for his dark and visceral fantasy aesthetic. Pavelec’s illustration focuses on the jagged, imposing architecture of a dragon’s nesting site, emphasizing the scale and predatory nature of the creatures it produces. The piece was well-received by players for capturing the thematic essence of red-aligned dragon tribal decks, becoming a staple of kitchen-table play during the mid-2000s.
