Dragon's Claw

As part of a cycle of five artifacts known as the 'claws,' each designed to reward players for casting spells of a specific color, this card functions as a source of incremental life gain whenever a red spell is played. The cycle was intended to provide simple, repeatable utility, particularly for newer players navigating the mechanics of the color wheel.

The artwork for the Ninth Edition printing was illustrated by Darrell Riche, who leaned into the aggressive, elemental aesthetic of red mana. By depicting a fierce, taloned artifact, the design visually communicates the card's function as a defensive counterpoint to red's typical chaotic and destructive nature.
