Where it came from
Dragonscale General was released in 2015 as part of the Fate Reforged expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a promo card, this version features unique alternate art and a specific collector number, 11s, distinguishing it from the standard version found in booster packs. It was primarily distributed through tournament play and organized events during the set's release window, serving as a participation or prize incentive to encourage player engagement with the new mechanics introduced in the block.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a prominent artist within the game's community known for his expressive and detailed fantasy style. In designing this piece, the focus was on capturing the formidable aesthetic of the Abzan Houses, a faction characterized by their endurance and connection to dragon magic. The artwork emphasizes the intricate, scale-patterned armor typical of the faction, aligning with the card's mechanical identity as a creature that bolsters others through a process known as outlast.
